Language

Basic English is understood by and large in Assam and is the language of government and administration.

Although the seven states of the North East are home to approximately only 10% of the entire population of India, they speak over 30% (over 300) of the dialects and languages.

In Assam the principal language is Assamese while Bengali is the second most common language. However Bodo, an ancient tribal language of Assam, is also widely spoken as well as Hindi.
